SKOPJE

Founded in the 3rd century B.C. the city of Skopje has a long and rich history and like all Balkan countries was ruled by numerous powers throughout it's long existence. Having withstood the hands of time and war the city was unfortunately decimated in just minutes by an earthquake in 1963. Even 50 years later the city is still undergoing reconstruction and taking on a new persona. Being built in ancient style, new buildings are being erected, statue popping up all over the city including the recent addition of a mighty Alexander the Great statue in the city center. It will be many more years until the cities new look is complete, but in the meantime life goes on for half of the countries population that live and work here.
