The Ancient Agora, located below the
famed Acropolis was the heart of Athens and served as the site of
religious and social activities. Most importantly however it acted as
the center of democracy and political affairs. It's formation began
in 600 B.C. and continued until around 200 A.D. Today it still
stands in it's former glory as a giant open air museum full of
gardens, fountains, ruins and the impressive Temple of Hephaistos,
built in 500 B.C. and still standing in pristine condition over 2500
years later.
